Jason Smith

Jason is the Principal Therapist and Director of Balanced Perceptions, with over two decades of experience working across human behaviour, relationships, and organisational dynamics.

Prior to establishing Balanced Perceptions, Jason worked extensively across corporate, government, and community settings delivering consulting, counselling, training, and behaviour-education programs. In therapeutic and community contexts, he supported individuals, parents, couples, and families to improve communication, emotional regulation, and relational functioning. In consulting roles, Jason worked with managers, leaders, and workplace teams to strengthen emotional intelligence, resolve conflict, and improve how people function together under pressure.

Jason has designed, developed, and facilitated parenting and couples programs delivered through organisations and services, working with families and relationships experiencing sustained stress and conflict. This work provided deep, practical insight into how children, families, and broader support systems interact when behaviour, stress, and communication break down.

He has also worked closely with legal and court systems through parenting and family programs supporting high-conflict separated families. In these roles, Jason regularly liaised with lawyers, child representatives, and judicial officers, and contributed written feedback and reports to assist families in meeting court-ordered requirements and improving outcomes for children. A consistent thread throughout his work has been helping people navigate conflict, rebuild communication, and reach practical outcomes in emotionally charged situations.

This extensive real-world experience informs Jason’s therapeutic work today. His approach is practical and educational, with a focus on meaningful behaviour change that clients can apply in everyday life. Clients often describe the work as clear, structured, and directly relevant to challenges they face at home, in relationships, and at work.

Jason’s work is also informed by his background in human nutrition and physiology, allowing relevant consideration of sleep, stress, energy, and lifestyle factors where appropriate.

Guided by principles of balance and perception, we strive to create a supportive environment where clients can explore their inner worlds and build fulfilling lives. Explore our services or follow us on X to learn more about our commitment to transformative therapy.
